SUMMARY:

Water Authority staff is working with the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC), the Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to complete the tasks directed by the Water Authority Board in Resolution R-12-13.  The Water Authority executed a Memorandum of Agreement with KAFB to coordinate efforts on a contingency plan in the event Water Authority production wells are impacted by the mixed aviation gas and jet fuel plume.  USGS staff are preparing a scope of work for services to be included in a new joint funding agreement between the USGS and the Water Authority, which will include activities related to capture zone analyses for Ridgecrest well field production wells, and the locating and drilling of early warning wells. The Water Authority sent Col. Kubinec a let on Dec. 5, 2012 formally notifying the Colonel that the Water Authority was seeking KAFB's cooperation to increase the pace at which they would submit a Final Work Plan and implementation of the final remedy for the Bulk Fuels Facility Spill for the benefit of all who rely on the regional aquifer.
