Authorizing a Grant with State of New Mexico for Security Surveillance at Southside Water Reclamation Treatment Plant

WHEREAS, the Water Authority's Southside Water Reclamation Plant, a sewage treatment and water recycling facility serving over 600,000 residents, returns about 55 million gallons of water to the Rio Grande daily; and
WHEREAS, the Southside Water Reclamation Plant located on a 100 acre site in the Bernalillo County South Valley is operated 24/7/365; and
WHEREAS, the Southside Water Reclamation Plant is a significant asset and warrants preventive and protective measures against terrorist attacks and vandalism; and
WHEREAS, the NM Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management provides grants specific to mitigating the impacts of terrorist attacks against vulnerable infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the Water Authority has applied for and is expected to receive approximately $200,000 in financial grant assistance for the purchase and installation of new security and surveillance cameras.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WATER AUTHORITY:
Section 1. That the Water Authority is authorized to receive approximately $200,000 in grant funding from the NM Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Section 2. That the Executive Director shall have the authority to enter into an agreement associated with the financial assistance.
Section 3. That in the event this grant is approved, NM Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management funds in the amount of $200,000, is hereby appropriated to Fund 628, Activity 6088010, Treatment Plant Renovation.
