Water Smart Award for the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department

b

The City of Albuquerque (COA) Parks and Recreation manages over 300 recreation sites that include all parks, public golf courses and swimming pool facilities. In total, they manage over 3,000 acres of landscape area with over 25,000 trees and a mix of turf and xeriscapes.

The Water Resources Conservation Program would like to recognize COA Parks & Recreation for the significant gains in efficiency that resulted in a reduction in water use by 192 million gallons from the previous year.

Over the last five years, the Water Authority has supported these efforts through irrigation consultations, leak inspections, data analysis, reports, and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to allow irrigation surcharge dollars to be used to improve efficiency in the parks. Via the MOU more than 24 park irrigation systems have been updated. Furthermore, no water waste violations have been issued during this time. COA Parks & Recreation is doing a great job in managing irrigation usage and for that, we would like to recognize them with the 2021 Water Smart Award.
