Authorizing the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority to Submit an Application for WaterSMART Grant Financial Assistance for the Aquifer Storage and Recovery Project

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (Water Authority) is seeking WaterSMART grant funding assistance for the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Project; and
WHEREAS, the ASR Project provides the ability to store San Juan-Chama water in the aquifer to meet future demand, particularly in years of limited surface water supply availability; and
WHEREAS, the ASR Project is a vital part of the Water Authority's 100-year Water Plan (Water 2120); and
WHEREAS, the Water Authority desires utilizing WaterSMART grant funding to plan and design the ASR Project.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WATER AUTHORITY:
Section 1. That an application for WaterSMART grant financial assistance for the ASR Project, be submitted to the Bureau of Reclamation.
Section 2. That approximately $400,000 in Water Authority matching funds be provided with the financial assistance request.
Section 3. That the Executive Director shall have the authority to enter into an agreement associated with the financial assistance.
Section 4. That the Executive Director will work with the Bureau of Reclamation to meet established deadlines for entering into a cooperative agreement.
