AUTHORIZING THE ALBUQUERQUE BERNALILLO COUNTY WATER UTILITY AUTHORITY TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR WATERSMART GRANT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE ADVANCED METERING INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT.

WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (Water Authority) is seeking WaterSMART grant funding assistance for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Project (AMI Project); and
WHEREAS, the Phase 4a AMI Project will deploy about 14,000 aging meters with modern smart meters in order to save money, deliver more accurate bills and encourage users to conserve water; and
WHEREAS, the Phase 4a AMI Project will save an estimated 62 million gallons of water annually; and
WHEREAS, the total cost of Phase 4a will be about $3 million with the grant providing $1 million in matching funds over a two-year period.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WATER AUTHORITY:
Section 1.      That an application for WaterSMART grant financial assistance for the AMI Project, be submitted to the Bureau of Reclamation.
Section 2.      That approximately $2 million in Water Authority matching funds be provided with the financial assistance request.
Section 3.      That the Executive Director shall have the authority to enter into an agreement associated with the financial assistance.
Section 4.      That the Executive Director will work with the Bureau of Reclamation to meet established deadlines for entering into a cooperative agreement.
